For WooCommerce merchants

You don't find out you owe sales tax in a state. You find out you owed it a year ago.

Reads your store's own WooCommerce order history and tells you which US states you've already crossed an economic-nexus threshold in, and on what date — because your registration and back-tax liability run from the crossing date, not from the day you find out. Free scan shows counts; $29/mo unlocks which states, when, and why.

Install the free plugin from the WordPress.org directory first — this unlocks the full report for an account already scanning your store.

A real example

Run against a simulated $2.17M/yr store, five states came back exceeded — every one of them on the 200-transaction test, not the dollar test:

StateCY2025 salesOrdersCrossed onAt crossing
OH$41,8782872025-09-09$30,022 / 200 txns

A merchant reasoning “I'm nowhere near $100,000 in Ohio, I'm fine” owed collection since August 2025 — a year of accrued, unregistered liability, at a third of the dollar threshold they were watching.

Frequently asked

How is this different from tax-calculation plugins like WooCommerce Tax or TaxJar?

Those plugins calculate and collect tax at checkout once you've already registered. NexusGuard answers the question that comes before that: have you crossed a threshold that obligates you to register at all, in which state, and since when? It runs entirely on your own order history and touches nothing in your checkout flow — it can't break payments.

What's the '200 transactions' thing?

18 of 48 taxing jurisdictions have a transaction-count nexus test as well as a dollar test — often 200 transactions — and many stores blow past it long before the dollar threshold. A merchant watching only the $100,000 figure can be a year into an unregistered, accruing obligation in a state without ever noticing. NexusGuard checks both tests for every state, using whichever the statute makes disjunctive or conjunctive.

Does this file or remit anything?

No. NexusGuard is informational monitoring only, not tax advice and not a filing service — it tells you which states and when, cites the statute, and tells you to confirm with your accountant before registering. It calculates nothing at checkout and stores no order data outside your own site.

Is my order data sent anywhere?

No. The scan runs inside your WordPress install against your own database. Nothing about your orders leaves your server. The paid tier only calls out to verify your license key, never to transmit order data.

What does the free tier show?

How many states you've exceeded and how many you're approaching — enough to know you have a real problem. The $29/mo tier unlocks which states, the exact crossing date, the obligation start date, the statute citation, and a CSV for your accountant.

Which states does it cover?

All 48 states (plus DC) that impose economic nexus, using each state's own measurement period — calendar year, rolling 12 months, or fiscal — and citing the source for every threshold. The 4 states with no state sales tax are excluded, not silently scored.

NexusGuard is informational monitoring only, not tax advice. Thresholds are summaries of state economic-nexus statutes; confirm with a tax professional before registering or filing.
